Setting up your Domain Name

This article explains how to link your B2B site to your own domain name.

Overview


Cin7's B2B site is hosted by Cin7 on our website servers. However you may like to customise the domain - the web address - of your B2B website so that it fits with your brand.

What is Datum Connect?

When setting up the B2B site, you may see references to datum.tv or Datum Connect - these are subsidiaries of Cin7 Ltd.

You will more than likely have a website already running with a registered domain name. In order to make the B2B Portal work with your website, you must point your registered domain or domains to Cin7’s servers, then “tell” Cin7 to recognize those domain(s).

We frequently see customers use sub-domains for their B2B site. i.e. for a company that operates http://www.mycompany.com they may wish to use http://b2b.mycompany.com for their B2B domain.

Adding a Custom Domain


First you must point your chosen domain to Cin7. Pointing a domain to Cin7 requires a host administrator to adjust the Domain Naming Services (DNS) settings for that domain.

To point a domain or subdomain to Cin7 (e.g. www.mycompany-b2b.com or b2b.mycompany.com), the host administrator must link a CNAME record of your domain to websites.cin7.com. It will look something like this:

You may be able to ask your hosting company to do this for you if you are unsure.

Finally, to enable a mobile version of the B2B site you will also need to setup the m. subdomain for your domain with the CNAME record pointing to "websites.cin7.com". You will also need to contact Cin7 support and let them know that you have set up a mobile domain for your B2B.

Update Time

Please be aware that some internet service providers can cache DNS records for many hours longer than what is specified in the time-to-live field. So you may not see the effects of this change immediately.

Once you have done this, you can now “tell” Cin7 to recognize that domain. To register the domain names pointing to your Cin7 account:

  1. Whilst logged in as an Administrator click on your username, top right, then click Settings.
  2. From the B2B Online Ordering menu, select Domain Names.
  3. The Domains Page will be blank. Click the Add Domain button in the top right corner of the screen.
  4. Add the domain that is pointing to Cin7.
  5. Click Save.
  6. Repeat for each new domain that points to Cin7.

Once this has been done, you should be able to access the basic B2B site - so time to start configuring!

 

FAQs

Do I have to set up a custom domain?

If you do not want to use a custom domain you can use a datum.tv address by entering yourcompanyname.datum.tv into the domain name settings explained in the steps above.

In the rare case that the domain is already in use, you will not be able to save the domain.
