Epson TM-m30

The Epson TM-m30 is our receipt printer of choice - this article explains how to set it up and get printing.

Overview

For most scenarios, the Epson TM-m30 is a great printer to use. It is inexpensive, compact and compatible with Mac via USB or Network and PC via USB.

Installing and using the Epson TM-m30

USB Printing

Installing the Epson TM-m30 on a Windows PC is straightforward using USB.

  1. Download and install any drivers from the Epson site.
  2. Connect the printer via USB and follow the included instructions for installing the printer.
  3. At this point you may also wish to edit the settings for the printer by finding the printer in the Devices and Printers area in Control Panel, right clicking on the printer and selecting Printer Properties.
Here you can alter the printer behaviour, e.g. determining how the Cash Drawer opens.
  4. Once installed, make a sale from the POS to trigger a receipt to print.
  5. In the Google Chrome print dialog screen, select the TM-m30 from the Destination dropdown.
  6. Next, click More Settings.
  7. Paper Size should be set to 80 x 297 mm. (Though the print preview appears to have a lot of blank space, the printer settings will be set to cut this off).

Network Printing

You can also connect the Epson TM-m30 to work via a network - useful if you Mac has no free USB ports.

Network printing also has the advantage of allowing receipts to print automatically without having to press 'print' in the Google Chrome print dialog, meaning a more streamlined POS experience.

There are two things to consider:

  • You will need to request that the support team change 'Receipt Close After Print' to 'Yes' in the backend.
  • The receipt layout cannot be modified by the Receipt Builder if using network printing.

To set this up:

  1. First connect your printer to a network using a standard network cable. On connection to a network the printer should print an IP Address - retain this as you will need it later.
  2. In the POS, make a test transaction to trigger a receipt to print.
  3. In the top right of the following screen, click Configure IP Printer.
If you do not see this screen, contact support (see above).
  4. Enter the IP address of the printer.
  5. Select Epson (TM-T88V-i) model from the dropdown.
  6. Click Test - a test receipt will be printed.
  7. Click Save.
